Every successive Government never bothered, or keep blind eye to tackle the issue of drought in Northern Kenya. apparently it has become culture to call for help from western world than to look for internal solutions.
Recently, I looked at video on you tube about food crisi in kenya but the irony "or the oppossite" is that there are some region in kenya where food rott in basket becouse of over productions and milk been sent to sewages becouse of the same issue of the so called over production of KCC.
So what is the problem then??
First of there is no proper policies to connect sub regional food production cooperation, where a task force should have been formed to move and shake resources round and lack Lack of shared resources.
Farmer are not informed about the benefit of importing food regionally within kenya instead of exporting, this creates regional imbalance where one county is throwing food away the neighbour county starving.
Lack of proper price regulation is another headache where shopkeepers or open sellers charge as they please this create hardship and create poverty and destitutions.
Solutions!!
The government should take the issue of drought very seriously bring awareness among farmer to understand the benefit of sub county trading which at the moment there is a gap.
Encourage the use of Idle land to farm and make available fund to irrigate thus creating more food.
Very harsh regulations for food pricing to minimise the risk should be also practices at moment powers is in the hand of business dealers.
Unless we make this happen, next year we talk about the same famine.. lesson not learned.
